Automotive Trade
Organizations of California (AuTO-CA)
Automotive Trade Organizations of
California (AuTO-CA) is a non-profit trade association representing the owners
of more than 2,000 automotive aftermarket businesses statewide. AuTO-CA was
formed in 1967 as a voice for small businesses in the
gasoline retailing and auto service industries. Over the years we have
successfully sponsored more than two dozen pieces of legislation and provided
input into hundreds of regulatory decisions in our efforts to represent our
members.
The Association for Automotive Professionals
California Service Station & Automotive
Repair Association (CSSARA)
California Service Station & Automotive Repair Association (CSSARA) is
a non-profit trade association incorporated under California state laws.
CSSARA took its current form in 1973. It was formed as an association of
associations to bring about better business conditions for petroleum retailers
and to develop a package of significant member benefits.
It is recognized nationally as one of the most aggressive associations of
its type in the country. Associations across the country are attempting to
equal CSSARA's record of accomplishments, particularly in the area of
legislation.
CSSARA maintains full-time lobbyists in Sacramento and has been
instrumental in passing numerous bills into law that have advanced the
interests of the service station dealers and automotive repair shop owners. A
list of legislation sponsored by the association is enclosed.
Dealers and repair shop owners in the automotive service industry have
found it a worthwhile vehicle to help resolve their many on-going problems.
In the past few years, the automotive repair shop owners have increased,
while the number of service stations continues to decline. At present, our
membership is almost 60/40 Service Station/Automotive Repair.

Department of Commerce
FED WORLD
In 1992, FedWorld was established by The
National Technical Information Service( NTIS), an agency of the US
Department of Commerce, to serve as the online locator service for a
comprehensive inventory of information disseminated by the Federal Government.
This new service assisted agencies and the public in electronically locating Federal
Government information, both information housed within the
NTIS repository and information we made accessible through an electronic
gateway of more than 100 Government
bulletin boards. What started out as a small dial-up access system has grown
tremendously over the last four years in size, technology, and content.
National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration
WHO ARE WE?? The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA),
under the U.S. Department of
Transportation, was established by the Highway Safety Act of 1970, as the
successor to the National Highway Safety Bureau, to carry out safety programs
under the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1966 and the
Highway Safety Act of 1966. The Vehicle Safety Act has subsequently been
recodified under Title 49 of the U. S. Code in Chapter 301, Motor Vehicle
Safety. NHTSA also carries out consumer programs established by the Motor
Vehicle Information and Cost Savings Act of 1972, which has been recodified in
various Chapters under Title 49.
NHTSA is responsible for reducing deaths, injuries and economic
losses resulting from motor vehicle crashes. This is accomplished by setting
and enforcing safety performance standards for motor vehicles and motor
vehicle equipment, and through grants to state and local governments to enable
them to conduct effective local highway safety programs.
NHTSA investigates safety defects in motor vehicles, sets and
enforces fuel economy standards, helps states and local communities reduce the
threat of drunk drivers, promotes the use of safety belts, child safety seats
and air bags, investigates odometer fraud, establishes and enforces vehicle
anti-theft regulations and provides consumer information on motor vehicle
safety topics.
NHTSA also conducts research on driver behavior and traffic
safety , to develop the most efficient and effective means of bringing
about safety improvements.
WE have a toll-free Auto Safety Hotline to provide recall information,
receive motor vehicle SAFETY complaints and furnish consumers with a wide
range of information on auto safety. The Hotline operates from 8 am to 10 pm
Eastern Time, Monday thru Friday. Calls can be received during non-business
hours by means of a sophisticated automatic telephone answering service. A
Spanish speaking operator is available from 8 am to 4 pm.
The nationwide toll-free number is 888-DASH-2-DOT
(888-327-4236). In the Washington, DC metropolitan
area the number is 202-366-0123. For the hearing impaired the TTY number is
